Blab!, Volume 15 $6.99 The preeminent anthology of the graphic design and illustration arts.Conceived, edited and designed by five-time New York Festival of Advertising award-winner Monte Beauchamp, Blab! has been an annual coffee-table showcase of fine art, illustration and comix for over a decade. It is an objet d’art that has become a standard-bearer in the world of the professional visual arts. Every volume of BLAB! features an eclectic mix of the world’s most exciting artists from the underground and counterculture, fine arts community, and commercial fields, but this volume is exceptional, with the introduction of many new contributors in addition to familiar favorites like Gary Baseman, whose hit TV show, Teacher’s Pet, was recently turned into a critically acclaimed Disney animated feature. Pop Art virtuoso Lou Brooks delivers the front and back covers, while Juxtapoz magazine favorite Christian Northeast does the insides covers.cAlso: Sue Coe takes a look at the so-called Bird Flu in “Fowl Plague,” now rapidly spreading across Asia and almost certain to cause a world wide pandemic; Matti Hagelberg’s “Shoes Say U.K.K.,” wherein the President of Finland dies and rises from his grave; autobiography from Nightmare Alley’s Spain Rodriguez; Jeffrey Steele’s story about the Black Dahlia murder and the man who believes his father was the murderer; Peter Kuper’s four-page, full-color, Little Nemo-inspired fantasy titled “Dream Machines”; Peter Hoey’s “discovered” episodes from a long-lost newspaper serial featuring the Victorian adventurer Lt. Blade, in “The Mystery of the Empty Mirage;” Douglas Fraser’s “Jumbo Shrimp,” a two-pager about many things, including the ongoing, quiet grind of the common place, the gray of specific generics, and the times when God or Science just don’t cut it; Tim Biskup paints up “Great Ghost Walk,” wherein spirits hunt for robot souls; and Laura Levine relates a story about one autumn morning in Sept., |

Black Ghost Knife $16.59 True to their name, knifefish have a long, tapered body akin to a household knife. As juveniles, these fish swim in groups of five or more of the same species. As they mature, the school tends to loosen and can become aggressive toward other tankmates. Knifefish can share their aquarium with other large species of fish that will not nip at their fins. Be aware that they may try to eat any fish that’s small enough to fit in their mouth. You will find that your knifefish is most active at night. Because knifefish are nocturnal, they should be fed during nighttime hours with the lights turned off. Feed as much food as they will consume within five minutes. You will see your knifefish swimming in the middle or at the bottom of your aquarium. To create a beautiful environment, be sure to add some top swimmers as well. Ask a PetSmart associate to help you choose. Aquarium Knifefish need a very long or large aquarium that is 40 gallons or more. Dcor Provide plenty of hiding places in the form of rockwork and roots or a hiding tube, as well as plants on the sides and back of the aquarium, leaving room in the center for swimming. Carnivores Instead of plants, these fish eat aquatic crustaceans, worms and aquatic insect larvae. Staple diet Knifefish prefer all types of live foods, including tubifex worms, earthworms, bloodworms, insects, insect larvae, small fish and brine shrimp. Feed according to the directions on the packaging. They can be trained to accept frozen and freeze-dried food. Ghost Shrimp $0.33 Ghost shrimp, also known as “glass shrimp” due to their transparent bodies, are an interesting addition to your tropical aquarium. They are bottom swimmers and walk along plant life collecting small particles of food that hasn’t been eaten by fish. They also help keep the tank clean by eating algae, and with their transparent bodies, you can actually see the food they’ve eaten being digested. Bottom swimmers You will see shrimp swimming at the bottom of your aquarium or climbing on the dcor. Molters This is a characteristic of shrimp and means they need to shed their outer skin in order to grow. Compatibility Juvenile shrimp can be kept in a general community aquarium, but as adults they may harass their tankmates and should be kept by themselves or with other large, tough fish. Staple diet Shrimp must be fed sinking pellet foods that they can find at the bottom of the tank. Frequent feedings For optimum health, feed your shrimp as much food as he will consume in 1-3 minutes, twice a day.
